This optic will replace the Aimpoint comp M3 when I am tracking wounded animals. As a hunting guide I usually carry my trusty 40 year old model 700 in 30.06. But, I decided to carry something a little lighter. The only time that I really need a rifle, as a guide, is if we have to track. A light rifle with a lower powered scope is ideal. Shots are typically inside 100 yards and in the brush. The Aimpoint suffices, but I found myself wanting a little magnification. The TA33G-H fills the bill.

This combination of optics compliment my LaRue Tactical PredatAR 5.56 very well.

Would you like to swap your Comp M3 for a Trijicon TX30, perchance? :D

No thanks. I am very happy with my Comp M3.

No problem - I like the red chevron of the Trijicon, but an Aimpoint would line up with all my OTHER Aimpoints on my other 5 AR's!

Sorry, my Aimpoint is the CompML3, not the CompM3. I bought it at LaRue Tactical with their QD mount. I think it is a good deal considering the mount.

I love ACOG's

Here's my buddys ta01ecos, that m4 was blown up in a IED attack, it broke the A.R.M.S. mount and was dangling off his m4 with a .15 cent piece of paracord, a small section of paracord saved his ACOG. When it finally got back home he replaced the mount and it was still zeroed when me mounted it on another rifle.

Same ACOG back in the states.

I def love mine..........TA31RCO-M4CP
w/o the flash kill and new mount....the A.R.M.S. LD#19

Once the ACOG is zero'ed at 100, the BDC(bullet drop compensator)should be accurate out to 800(for elevation only-windage would be done utilizing the horizontal dashes on the sight(as shown in the very last pic).

Here's a quick reference guide that I did after my 100Y zero was completed:

@ 50Y, Hold will be at the 200M "crotch" of the Chevron reticle

@ 25Y, hold was at the 300M post

@ 20Y, hold was just below the 400M dash(around 410)

@ 15Y. hold was just below the 500M dash(around 515)

@ 10Y, hold was just below the 600M dash(around 625)

@ 5Y, hold was at 750M

From the ACOG book......edited.

I really want to find some longer ranges to shoot at.....
This was at 240 at a local range in PA (POA was just below the "crotch")

Here's what I was shooting: Standing on the 200Y marker so we were thinking like 230 to 240 to the mound....8" steel target on the left and sporting clays to the right.....

I have the TA31F, which has the same reticle with the exception of the windage marks. I did a lot of research before I got my ACOG and sent a lot of emails and made a lot of phone calls to Trijicon when making my decision on which ACOG I should get.

According to Trijicon, they only make one ACOG where the BDC is calibrated for a 16" barrel chambered for the .223, which is the TA31 series. Thought that was crazy since the 16" barrel seems to be the most popular length barrel but they tend to cater more towards military applications with the 14.5" M4. All other ACOG's are calibrated mostly for the 14.5" barrels and a few 20" barrels. Another thing to note is that Trijicon also uses 62gr when calibrating.

So if you are in the market for an ACOG, I'd contact Trijicon and ask them which ACOG is best suited for your set up. Of course Trijicon also states that all ACOG's built around the .223 will zero on any length barrel up to 300 meters but should you want to hit targets beyond this you should choose a scope that was calibrated on the barrel length of your rifle in order for the 400–800 meter BDC marks to be remotely close.

Just wanted to pass this on to any whom are looking to purchase an ACOG in the future... 8)

:handgestures-thumbupright: Yeah, I love my TA31F... Nice to know that should a terroist deploy an EMP, there are not batteries nor electronics in an ACOG.....

.....But with any scope or ammo combination, it will be zero'ed to the weapon it is mounted to. My DD has a 1:7 barrel, and I have been using 55g FMJ ammo in it. It is rated for 62 or higher but with limitations to ammo here in Michigan since I've been here, 55g seems to be the easiest to come by.

My TA31 is zero'ed using that grain and I am consistant out to 200y but if I were to use a higher grain when I get back home, I would re-zero based on the powder change.

You are correct. 8)

I mentioned that Trijicon calibrates their scopes using 62gr as general information. Of course you can zero any of the ACOG's built for the .223 with any bullet weight as long as the bullet weight suits the barrels twist rate. The problem with ACOG's is if you want your BDC marks from 400 to 800 meters to be remotely accurate (after you have zeroed the scope in at 100 meters), you have to make sure you purchase the correct model that was calibrated on the barrel length you are going to mount yours on. The TA31's were calibrated for 16" 1:7 barrels where as most all other models were calibrated for 14½" 1:7 barrels. According to Trijicon, there is a big difference on BDC marks calibrated for a 14½" barrel than a 16" barrel. Now I am purely going by what I was told by the technical department at Trijicon, I have not done any of the testing myself...
But I will be glad to test both if Trijicon wants to send me some free ACOG's to test...

Np......the guys at the indoor range out here were like "wtf is this guy doing?" I had charts and was taking notes for my initial shots and then used that data for my finals.

Each weapon system, ammo brand and range combo will be different but I hope the data will be somewhat helpful to most.

The ammo tested with was Federal XM193 55g FMJ, AE XM193BL 55g FMJ and Winchester 55g FMJ.
