How do you properly set your A2 front sight (post)

Postby jn_fsu » Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:39 pm

I know how to raise and lower the post. Two problems I've come across. One the sight post blocks out the target at long range. Two sometimes it's easy to lose sight of the post depending on lighting and target color.
I thought about just adding a small amout of paint to the tip creating a "red dot" type set up using the front sight post. Will this work?
Or any other suggestions? To truely set the post correctly how much post should be showing or exposed. I set and reset twice and I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly. Though I can still hit my target at 100 yards...

Hummm I'm going to have to review this info...
My set up is different. I forgot to mention my front sight is HK style, still uses FSP and the rear is Troy Di-optic sight.

front sight post is a front sight post.....Some of mine are HK style, set the post the same for a 6 o'clock hold. I center the post in the peep.

Cool thanks Mike!
Have you painted any of your posts to make them more visible?

Nope.......a couple have fiber optics, a few others have tritium with white around them...the rest have plain black posts.

I'm a little confused on what you're saying by "losing" your front site... You should should be looking at your front site post with the target behind it which will appear fuzzy.
This place is an X-file, wrapped in a cover-up and deep-fried in a paranoid conspiracy!

I have all the same issues too - vision, losing sight of the post, everything you mentioned. I often have to drop the rifle off the target so there is contrast between the post and the new background (snow, a wall, the ground etc) then put the sight back on target to regain the post in my vision. I got a sample pack of Glow-On at XDTalk and am thinking about mixing up a bit of orange and putting it on the sight post. The pack also came with Glow-On strips so I may go with a strip on the post instead of paint.

My poor right eye vision really makes shooting a challenge, especially with a rifle. With a pistol I simply adjust my stance to shoot right handed but left eyed.
