First, your picture must be hosted on photo site. I use PhotoBucket (http://photobucket.com/)
Create an account, (free) upload your pictures.
Copy the IMG code from your picture and paste it into the post you are in.

Photobucket re-sizes to a max of 800 wide.
That is a good size for those of us still on older smaller monitors.

why not just have this site set up so you can post directly from your computer? that would be so much simpler.

Bandwidth costs money. Right now this site is being hosted on server space provided by another member at no cost.
